Hurrican news

Scarlett so glad everything is alright at your house. I did talk with Donna and knew you and family were ok. Cindy and Jerry are also ok. Only damange is neighbors tree fell on their fence.
No power yet. Talked with Cindy this morn, she was trying to get to her office to see if she could help there. Jerry's 89 year old mother is with them, wanting to go home but she has no power either. Jerry goes back to work Wednesday. They do have power where he works. Cindy said she is alright unless the temp gets higher, then she will come this way. Right now they do not know when they will get power, said lots of trees on power lines have to be removed before they can start. So thankful but so sorry for all the others

After Ike

Hello after our hurricane. We all "sheltered in place." Michael, Tristan, and I were at my house. Amanda and Russell stayed at their house. The storm went through during the night. I heard wind and rain and was hot. The electricity went out about 8:30. We had ice and plenty of water, and it never went out. When we woke up on Saturday, the yard was littered with a few branches and lots of twiggy branches and leaves. Still no electricity. I opened windows to try to get some air stirring which helped a little. We got through Saturday and I was dreading trying to get to sleep that night. About 8:00 pm the electricity came back on. Amanda came over for a little while a little after 9:00 because their electricity was not back on. I haven't spoken with her this morning to know if it came back on or not. They had very little damage at their house. She said part of the fence leaned a little but did not fall and they lost about 5 shingles on their house.

Thank goodness we live in a county that ended up a little west of the eye's path. We did not get the flooding nor the extensive damage causing the power outages. Perhaps our outage was caused by limbs on lines or a blown transformer. Anyway, whatever was the cause it was accessible and, apparently, fixable.

We have heavy rains today--leftover moisture from Ike and a cold front moving in. So what debris isn't washed away with the rain this morning, we will clean up this afternoon. We fared much better than many and I am grateful.
